Frequently Asked Questions About Online Testing
If you’re just getting started with assessment for the first time or you were last tested as a teen or child, you may have some questions about the process and what you can expect. On this page, the OAT (Online Adult Testing) team provides answers to some of our frequently asked questions about online testing. If you have other questions you don’t see answered below, please don’t hesitate to reach out. One of our team members will be happy to provide you with additional information. You can use the link below to send us an email.
In order to utilize our telehealth platform, you should have access to high-speed internet. You’ll also need a computer, phone, or tablet computer that has video and audio capabilities in order to conduct video telehealth sessions. You should also be prepared to spend several hours on your assessments and the telehealth sessions. Make sure to set aside plenty of time in a private, quiet location for each stage of the process.
We do not take insurance. At this time, we only accept payment via credit and debit card. Cash, checks, and payment apps like PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo are not currently accepted to fulfill payment for your telehealth assessment services. In some cases, supplemental spending accounts attached to insurance benefit plans may be used to fund the cost of treatment. Details about this should be reviewed with your insurance provider.
The decision to forego accepting insurance plans for our online telehealth testing services was considered very carefully. When we made the final choice, it was based on a number of factors, including:
- Difficulty of accepting insurance from all of the states where we are able to offer. Because insurance benefits and coverage vary from state to state, it would be nearly impossible to offer the same coverage for our clients and receive adequate compensation for the services we provide.
- Lack of coverage for psychological testing. Many insurers offer little to no coverage for assessment psychology services. Those that do offer testing coverage may not offer benefits for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) testing, or they may not offer benefits for adults.
- Insurance refusal to cover specific tests. When working with insurance, some tests we deem necessary to make a complete and thorough assessment may not be covered, which limits our ability to provide the best possible care for our clients.
- Unexpected bills. Insurance providers may originally approve coverage for testing then deny all or part of this benefit after testing is completed, leaving clients with bills they didn’t expect. At OAT, we provide an accurate good faith estimate of the cost of your treatment before we even begin. There are no surprise fees or bills.
While the OAT team recognizes the importance of and need for medication and therapy as part of the mental health continuum of care, we do not provide prescriptions, medication management, or therapy services at this time. We provide psychological testing services only via telehealth. If we believe you could benefit from incorporating medications or therapy into your ongoing treatment plan, you can work with a general practitioner, prescribing medical professional, psychiatrist, therapist, or other practitioners to obtain medications or schedule therapy sessions.
We welcome adults aged 18 plus to receive ASD and ADHD assessment via our telehealth platform. We are committed to offering LGBTQIA+ and gender-affirming assessment, so all can feel safe and comfortable working with us. Due to regulations, we are only able to provide assessments for residents of states that participate in PsyPact. As long as clients are residents of and located within one of the PsyPact states at the time of their appointments, they can receive assessment from our team-
